Working within the Public Works Commission, Fleet Services dept., under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, the Technician will perform routine preventative maintenance inspections and mandatory government safety inspections on all vehicles serviced at the Transit Service Centre located at 400 Grand River Avenue. As part of the inspection, maintenance and repair of all systems on various types of light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment the Technician will be required to maintain a safe and clean work environment and assist in any diagnosis or mechanical or structural repairs. These repairs require the knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, air conditioning and air control systems. The technician will be familiar with various computer and electronic diagnostic equipment, possess keyboarding skills, knowledge of WHIMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. This position requires heavy lifting, various levels of standing, climbing, sitting, twisting, crouching and kneeling.
- Must possess a valid Truck & Coach Technician License (310T).
- Must be a reliable self-starter and able to prioritize tasks according to changing demands and work with or without supervision
- Must be computer literate and familiar with electronic diagnosis equipment
- Experience working with diesel engines, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Must possess safe work practices;
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including lifting up to 70lbs, reaching, squatting, bending, climb step ladders, sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time;
- A valid class G Ontario driver's license in good standing
- The successful candidate will provide and maintain all necessary mechanics hand tools.
